  • No such thing as overnight success
  • Ignore the naysayers
  • Say yes to everything in your first 5 years
  • Have a side hustle or corporate sponsor ( energy)
  • Numbers game
  • Be a gardener not a flower
  • Network but not in a creepy way. Go oldschool
  • Social media is fantastic but most people forget about the most important part “being social”
  • Network oldschool or analogue style
  • Good networking is giving not taking (Be a gardener not a flower)
  • Find people to refer you
  • Give, give give

  • Start with your friendship circle
  • Go to networking events
  • Contact one person a day
  • Caters ( shoot products at parties and give them away)
  • Florists
  • Shoot events
  • Event producers

Find people to collaborate with

  • Event planners (styled shoots)
  • Cafes
  • Restaurants
  • Caterers
  • Family portraits
  • Schools
  • Ballet clubs
  • Hairdressers
  • Sporting events
  • Work on student films
  • Go to conventions
  • Volunteer
  • Join local business organizations like rotary
  • Charity work

Refrain from shooting for free or competing on price

  • Shoot for folio
  • Test lighting

Find the discerning clients and when you’ve found the first one then get to know their friends

Social proof

  • Get testimonials from your clients

Focus on the experience and not your price
Be so good that people will refer you.
