Show Notes

Hi, my name is Kristi Louise Herd and I was born in Oldham, Greater Manchester, UK. I am currently working as a coordinator at the University of Dundee. As I like to challenge myself, I am also currently studying for a Masters in Design for Business.

I spent my teenage years chasing a dream, I wanted to be famous, live in California and drive fast cars. I never did make it to California or become famous, however, I did get to drive fast cars.

I finished School, went to art college, met Jon Bon Jovi (in that order) and at the age of 21, I got my first job as a graphic artist at a computer gaming company. I lived and acted like a rock star! When I appeared at computer gaming shows, people would ask for autographs “cool man, you did the graphics for this game, can you sign this dude” yes, they really did talk like that. And for a while I lived life in the fast lane and got to drive cars that did 0-60mph in under 4 seconds. Living the dream! And then I crashed, not in a car, but mentally. I was burnt out; I had a creative block that I couldn’t shift and I didn’t know if I would ever get it back.

Now, all these years later and several different career paths taken, I live in Scotland, one of the most beautiful places on earth. And it was by moving to Scotland that my creativity started to flow again.

For as long as I can remember, I have owned a camera. Polaroid cameras, single use instant cameras, 35mm cameras, and then my Dad bought me my first DSLR in 2007 and I have never been short of creativity again. I eat, sleep and drink creativity, it is what drives every part of my life. My photography is one of the tools I use to express that creativity.

I have been lucky enough to work in creative industries and I am proud to say I have been fortunate enough to have experienced some great things because of my photography. But spending the past 2 years working towards my first photography book has been a very personal and rewarding journey. With the mentorship from Gina and the support from the amazing community of photographers she has brought together, anything is possible.

For me, I never stop chasing my dreams.
