How to create Split and Rembrandt Lighting using daylight or artificial lighting

Knowing how to manipulate light in relation to your model is a game-changer. These rules apply to ALL light. If you understand light you can achieve any light style.

Using the classic portrait lighting styles is not an essential skill. There are some photographers who light intuitively and that’s ok. But just like knowing colour theory or composition rules, it’s a great idea to be aware of lighting styles.

In this tutorial, Gina will show you:

  • How to create and manipulate split lighting and Rembrandt lighting
  • How to use fill light to control contrast in your images
  • How to understand the quality of light (hard vs soft)
  • How to position light in relation to your subject to achieve these lighting styles.
