How to create realistic shadows using Photoshop

There’s a lot more to shadows than meets the eye. In fact, there’s a whole science to it.

When you isolate a model or product in your image, they can look like they’re just floating in the air. Shadows will help reattach them to the real world.

In this tutorial, Gina will show you how to create 3 different kinds of shadows using Photoshop.

  • A basic shadow below the object to make it feel more solid
  • A long shadow in front or behind the model or object
  • A simple reflection so it looks like it’s on a reflective surface.

Gina will also show you the science of shadows:

  • The quality and texture of shadows
  • How to find the colours within a shadow
  • How different light sources create different types of shadow
